In 1976, Nikolai N. Petrov defended his degree thesis at the Leningrad State University (Department of Research on Operations).
In 1986, Nikolai N. Petrov defended his candidate’s thesis entitled "Some Problems of Evasion in Differential Games" at the Leningrad State University.
In 2007, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Conflict-Controlled Processes with Many Participants and Additional Restrictions" and received his candidate’s degree at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
