Lectures of leading scientists at the Ural Mathematical Center (P.V. Kuptsov)

Professor Pavel Vladimirovich Kuptsov, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, chief research worker, head of the Laboratory of Theoretical Nonlinear Dynamics of the Saratov Branch of the Kotelnikov Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences gave a talk in a seminar on the topic "Application of Numerical Lyapunov Analysis for Investigation of Chaotic Dynamics".

The first part of the talk was devoted to the procedure of calculating Lyapunov exponents for dynamical systems. In the second part the speaker discussed methods of calculating local (finite-dimensional) and instantaneous Lyapunov exponents, matrices of Lyapunov diffusion, covariant Lyapunov vectors, and the angles between tangent subspaces. Examples were given of the use of characteristic objects of the Lyapunov analysis for investigating chaotic dynamics. In particular, the method of numerical verification of the hyperbolicity and pseudohyperbolicity was discussed.
